Gender Determination Ultrasound Assessments

The Vancouver Island Health Authority is no longer telling parents the gender of their fetus when they attend for their routine obstetrical ultrasound examination. However many (in fact most) parents want to know.

So:

Starting July 01, 2010, the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit will be offering private pay Gender Determination Ultrasound Assessments to maternity patients who wish to determine the gender of their fetus.

Gender Determination Ultrasound Assessments will only be done after 22 weeks gestational age to avoid fetal gender selection. The preferred time for gender determination is 22 – 25 weeks. It is still possible to determine fetal gender later in pregnancy, however it is more difficult to capture the fetal gender image when the fetus is larger.

Gender Determination Ultrasound Assessments will be performed by a certified ultrasonographer.

Each appointment is scheduled as a bried and limited ultrasound. The appointment is to confirm fetal gender only.

Clients will be provided with one profile printed image of their baby as well as one profile digital (.jpg) image of their baby.

If we are not certain of your baby’s gender, there will be no charge or you may reschedule for another complimentary ultrasound assessment appointment.

Please contact the office directly to schedule a Gender Determination Ultrasound Assessment appointment. No referral is required.
