Dr. Cooper received his medical degree (MD) from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1986. He completed his Specialty Fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology (FRCSC) through the University of British Columbia programme in 1994. He is also U.S. Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology (FABOG).

He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine (Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology) at the University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria.

Dr. Cooper maintains an active office medical practice specializing in early pregnancy complications, high risk obstetrics and gynecology. He maintains hospital privileges at the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Victoria).

He is the Medical Director of the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit.

He is also the President of John K Cooper MD Inc, a medical corporation specializing in women’s health care delivery.
